The term "muscle confusion" is a trend that is rising with the fitness gurus nowadays. As the term suggests, you confuse the muscles so that you can maximize the results of your body building exercises. That is also the principle behind one of the most popular weight loss programs today, the P90X. So how do you "confuse" your body to help you build muscles?
P90X does this in its program by offering you a different exercise done in a different day. The program involves different kinds of weight training and also different kinds of cardiovascular exercises. Muscle confusion is done by focusing on chest muscles in one day, and then doing yoga on another day, and then plyometrics the next day. The point being you should confuse your body by making it guess which exercise you will do for the day.
Now, there are some P90X equipment needed if you are following the program at home. But if you are enrolled in a gym and not following the program, you can still do muscle confusion. You can do this by making your body guess how many sets and repetitions you will do. To give you an example, you can start by doing 3 sets of 10 repetitions with 10 pounds. After a day’s rest, you will do 3 sets of 12 repetitions with 10 pounds. By varying the sets, repetitions, and weight, you are already doing muscle confusion. A rule of thumb, when you vary a set, repetition, or weight, it should always be more challenging for you.
When doing exercises and building muscles, there is just one thing that your body should not be confused about; and that is nutrition. You should always get the right amount of protein and other nutrients so that your body can always recover, making you see results at a much faster time.
